Chris Spencer

Chris became involved in swimming through her association with The Entrance SLSC on the NSW Central Coast in the mid 1980's. Whilst training the nippers and becoming chief instructor of the club, she was talked into attaining her Austswim qualification and has not looked back since.

Chris was mentored under the watchful eyes of Brian and Pam Hutchings nee Singleton whom were pioneers of swimming and surf in Australia along with Don Metcalf at Toukley Pool.

Whilst working at Toukley in NSW Chris gained experience and became qualified in all aspects of the aquatic industry. Starting with learn to swim Chris then attained her pool superintendent (now operators) certificate being one of the very few women in the 1980's to do so. Back then you had to be jack of all trades. Coaching was next followed by fitness qualifications and recreational management.

After 22 years in the industry Chris still enjoys the challenge of attaining knowledge having just achieved her Graduate certificate in Applied Science and sports coaching.

Moving to Queensland in 1995 Chris took on the lease of the Tewantin Pool on the Sunshine Coast till 2005 developing her own programs and style.

Coaching on development squads and state teams started in 1996 right through till her leaving in 2005 to take up the opportunity with the team at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Highlights are the satisfaction of working with the youngest in learn to swim through to gold at nationals and placing swimmers on state and national teams. Asked to the national event camp in 2002 was an invaluable learning experience to work with some of the best swimmers and coaches in the world.

Now head coach again of her own program and still running her own aquatics business Chris brings over 2 decades of experience from pool management and learn to swim along with her coaching success.

Chris is now embarking on new territory with co founder Narelle Simpson of InstyleSwimming Australiaâ„¢ delivering courses in the development of swim instructors/ teachers in the aquatics industry.
